How Liposuction Surgery is Conducted?

Conducted as an outpatient surgery, liposuction is a safe procedure that is performed under local anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Qualified cosmetic surgeons make incisions near the area to be treated, insert a thin tube known as cannula into them, and loosen up the excess fat there. Finally, it is vacuumed out. Depending on the area and its size, the entire process takes 1 to 3 hours, depending on the number of areas targeted and the volume removed. Once the surgery is finished, the skin starts contracting, molding to the novel contours in the areas treated.

Recovery after Liposuction

After the procedure, you may feel some swelling, bruising and pain in the area treated. Your cosmetic surgeon may give you some medicines to control pain and prescribe some antibiotics to mitigate any infection risk. Most surgeons prefer to keep incisions open, so that any fluid can be drained quickly to accelerate the healing time.

They may ask you to wear compression garment to help in the healing process.  You may not be able to go back to work for a couple of days, and the surgeons will advise you not to resume rigorous activities like exercising for a few weeks when large amount of fat is removed.
